This ‘mind-blowing’ dream mansion on a former Oregon golf course could come true for a buyer with $13M
A proposed 14,584-square-foot residence on a 28-acre slice of the former Sandelie Golf Course in West Linn has all the qualities of a high-end resort: a rooftop lounge and driving range, glass breezeways to luxury suites and cocktail bars, and uninterrupted tree-ladened views.
Michael Barclay of Barclay Home Design has created plans for the contemporary mansion to be built by Gerald Rowlett’s Westlake Development Group. The asking price is $12,950,804.
The estate is named The Legacy in honor of Rowlett’s long history of constructing custom houses designed by Barclay in the Pacific Northwest.
Architectural renderings of the custom house at 29435 S.W. Mountain Road include a 14-foot pivot front door that opens to a foyer with glass walls and sliding panels. The great room can have a double-height fireplace column and an exercise studio could be equipped with a sauna, cold plunge and en-suite bathroom, one of 12 planned bathrooms.
Outdoor entertainment spaces overlooking the infinity pool can include recessed conversation areas with fire pits, an oversized spa and a poolside bar, said listing brokers Thomas Cale and Justin Krug of Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty.
Then there’s the idea of a Sky Lounge. An elevator ascends to the rooftop living area that can have a state-of-the-art golf simulation space. Glass doors can roll away to expose a driving range under the stars.
Cale and Krug said the residence, if realized on the scenic site, would be “perhaps the most epic luxury estate ever created in Oregon.” Past the private gate is a planned courtyard with waterfalls fronting an auto gallery.
Plans call for six bedrooms and a wall of wine bottles can be incorporated into a game room.
“In our opinion, it would rival the most iconic homes in the wealthiest communities across the United States,” continued Krug. “Simply put: It’s mind-blowing.”
The brokers said they are marketing the estate to people who have an affinity for the extraordinary and who prefers to chart their own path. Building a custom luxury home allows owners to have everything they want.
“There are innumerable opportunities for relaxation, wellness and entertainment afforded by the layout and features,” said Cale. “With a total length of roughly a half mile, the property offers more than enough space for the lucky owners to practice their golf swing, play sports, ride horses or start a farm.”
The property has water rights and a high-producing well, and could handle the addition of a private sports field, the brokers said. “With a circular driveway, spacious motor court and a five-car garage, parking is never a concern,” they added.
Rowlett of Westlake Development Group, who has been building custom homes throughout the Pacific Northwest for 35 years, bought part of the former West Linn golf course in the coveted Stafford area in March.
Cale and Krug are also representing Westlake Development Group to sell a nearby residential estate with two of the former nine holes on what was Sandelie’s east nine. The other nine is still open and has been renamed Kohl Creek Golf Course.
The second estate proposes a 7,000-square-foot custom home on a 13-acre lot, also with the temporary address of 29435 S.W. Mountain Road. The asking price is $6,999,000, depending on the buyer’s wishes.
“This is already a golfer’s destination,” Rowlett told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “Imagine the edge someone would have practicing daily by teeing up outside the back door.”
