Bamboo was the word on the street this year at Salone del Mobile, the design world’s annual rendezvous in Milan for new products, exhibitions, and installations. Not as a component of fabric or sheets, which has felt like the use du jour, but the plant’s organic knobby form in all its glory. Just one example: Gucci’s presentation was focused entirely on the sustainable plant, which highlighted several designers working with it in novel ways.
