Pinterest Predicts the Top Fall Home Trends for 2024
As fashion month comes to a close in Milan, the world is saturated in up-and-coming trends and predictions on what will be the next big thing. And Pinterest is no different. Their recent fall trend report analyzed what users were searching for the most. From “run club inspiration” being up 700 percent from last year to the resurgence of “early-aught pixie cuts” (up 1,630 percent), the platform has always helped users be on the cutting edge of trends, including interior design.
As a part of this fall trend report, Pinterest showcased the top trending searches in the interior design and home space. While some searches, like “air purifying plants” (up 850 percent) and “sage green and blue color palettes” (up 570 percent) are fairly evergreen design elements, we’re here to reveal the four trends from Pinterest’s report that we predict will take over our social media feeds—and our homes—over the next year.
Read on as we highlight our four favorite interior looks from Pinterest’s fall trend report and advise on how to incorporate them into your own space.
Japanese Living Room Ideas
Increase in search: +135%
Whether it be an increased need for refined yet relaxed interiors (read: low-maintenance), or the influence of the Emmy-sweeping drama Shōgun, Japanese-inspired interior design has been one of Pinterest’s most sought-after and searched-for styles. To bring this trend into your own space, opt for low-to-the-ground furniture, neutral hues, and plenty of greenery. Paper lantern lighting and room-dividing screens can also aid in curating the low-effort style.
Cozy Sunrooms
Increase in search: +850%
Unlike a porch or screened-in room, a sunroom is an all-year way to enjoy nature without being hindered by mosquitos or the elements. Known for their expansive windows and comfortable furniture, sunrooms are a family-favorite place to gather for those who have one. If you want to add an extension to your home, consider a multipurpose sunroom that can grow and adapt to your needs over the years.
Green Home Decor
Increase in search: +2,670%
Nature-inspired hues remain prominent across all areas of interior design. In fact, it’s once again on the rise with an over 2,000 percent increase across Pinterest’s search. Whether you incorporate the trend subtlety through soft goods or go all in with a swath of green paint, the hue works for every design style. We recommend a sage hue for a calming, spa-like energy, a hunter green for a moody, cocoon-like room, or lime green or chartreuse accents to add a vibrant pop.
Zen House
Increase in search: +405%
As the outside world grows increasingly chaotic, people are looking to make their interiors as calming and zen as possible. Cozy upholstery textures such as velvet, mohair, and boucle, along with calming paint colors, and natural materials are increasingly sought after by interior designers’ clients and home shoppers.
